At Alchemy, capital management is an amalgam
of an idea, a passion and a conviction. It
is the confluence of expertise, experience
and discipline. Alchemy Capital Management
is focused on sustainable wealth creation
for the long term. We seek to achieve this
by harnessing Conviction (derived
from primary research) and Patience
(derived from disciplined asset allocation).
At Alchemy, we believe EQUITY is a superior
asset class for the coming decade, as it was
in the last decade. Alchemy Capital
Management is structured to cater to select
wealthy families and to advise select
committed institutions.
Growth at reasonable price
Alchemy’s investment philosophy is
“Growth at reasonable price”. This
approach is rooted in the hypothesis that
India is a high growth economy and that the
best way to benefit is to identify and
invest in companies that are best equipped
to take advantage of the emerging domestic
and global opportunities.
Invest for long term
At Alchemy, we evaluate stocks primarily
from a long-term investment perspective as
it serves the twin objectives of reducing
the impact of short-term volatility and help
capture a substantial part of the value
accretion during the life cycle of a growth
stock. Compounding is at the heart of wealth
creation. Seeding the appropriate investment
ideas and watching them grow into realising
full value is what our passion is. We do not
trade in and out of investments to capture
short-term volatility.
Avoid institutional imperatives
Diversification as a way of risk-management
appears more academic than real to us in an
active investing strategy. We believe that
mere diversification does not reduce risk.
Risk arises out of doing something that you
do not know or understand. A typical
portfolio constructed by us has anywhere
between 15-20 stocks such that
stock-selection can have a meaningful and
noteworthy effect on overall portfolio
risk-return profile. We avoid taking fringe
bets. Our investment style involves
identifying individual bottom-up investment
opportunities which are more secular in
nature. We are strongly focused on capital
protection and absolute returns as opposed
to benchmark/relative weight investing.
